WHAT IS THE PYBL? 

LEAGUE BACKGROUND:

•Founded in 2014 with only 6 boys teams and 60 players

•2018 Winter Season included over 500 boys and girls players.

•17 different counties have been represented throughout DC, MD, and VA.

Currently inactive: Hampton Roads, Fredericksburg, Frederick, Fauquier 

• Simplifies the recruiting process for high school coaches, players, and their families 

• Players will participate in 6-9 games per season throughout the winter months (November-March) and summer months (June-August) 

LEAGUE ACCOLADES:

•36 Players on Washington Post All-Met (2020) 

•# 1 Player in the Class of 2020, and two others on ESPN Top 25 in the country

•#1 Player in the Class of 2021

•3 Players on the USA 16u Roster in 2017

•7 Alumni players tried out for the USA 16 team this past summer

•Alumni at every WCAC, IAC, Private league school.  Also several public and charter schools

•Alumni in Divison I, II, III, NAIA & Juco 

•Alumni in the NBA G-League 

• Alumni Coaches who are now college coaches: Kelvin Johnson, Keith Byrd,

• During our summer playoffs over 80 high school coaches and 42 different High schools represented in attendanc

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ​

 

Who is Eligible to Play?

Elite: 8th graders and High-Level 8th graders

Rising Stars: 7th graders and High-Level 6th graders

 

Is there an age restriction? 

No, players who are in middle school are eligible to play. 


Where will games be played? 

Games will be played at various gyms in the Washington Metropolitan area and surrounding areas. 


How many players per team? 

We recommend that each team carry at least 10 players but no more than 15. 

 

How does this league benefit my child? 

The PYBL will allow your child to compete in a showcase event for several weeks during the winter and summer. 


What makes this league different? 

The PYBL is the only league dedicated to elite middle school players in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.  Our league is a prime location for high school coaches to recruit players for high school.  

 

Are there any player fees? 

The following fees are associated with the PYBL: 

Tryout fees are at the discretion of the coach. 

Registration Fee fluctuates between 130-150.00 depending on the season.  Late fees are applied in the event registration date has passed. 
 

Can a player tryout for more than one team?

Yes...

 

Will the PYBL affect anything that we are currently doing? 

PYBL will do its best to work with all area leagues to avoid scheduling conflicts.  For example, no games are played during major aau weekends/events. 

 

How much playing time is guaranteed? 

Playing time is to be earned.  There is no specific amount of playing time guaranteed per player. 

 

Are players required to play for their area team? 

No, a player can play for any team in the league regardless of where they live.  It is encouraged that you play for an area close to your home in the summer as Elite games are area-based. 

Refunds: No refunds are given if you remove yourself from a team. 

Can a player switch teams during the season?  Absolutely not.  After you play a game with one team you can only play on that team for the season.
